Pecker testified that Donald Trump “asked me what can I do and what my magazines can do to help the campaign” during the trial, going on to lay out the National Enquirer’s “catch and kill” arrangement to squash negative stories about Trump. Pecker’s testimony is in line with the prosecution’s case that the hush money payments were about Trump’s presidential campaign and not just about his personal reputation.

“You’re losing all credibility with the court,” Judge Juan Merchan told Donald Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche about Trump’s recent posts on Truth Social. Merchan said he was reserving a decision on whether Trump violated his gag order with posts about Stormy Daniels, Michael Cohen and others related to the hush money case. Blanche argued the court was not “clear” about “reposts” in the gag order.

Colangelo also quoted Donald Trump in the “Access Hollywood” tape. Jury selection for Donald Trump’s criminal trial in New York started with seven seated jurors Thursday, but two were dismissed by midday. One was dismissed after expressing concerns about her identity being shared publicly, and prosecutors found new information about the other that they said called into question the truthfulness of the juror’s answers during voir dire. Judge Juan Merchan asked reporters to limit the physical descriptions of the jurors, CNN reports.

After skipping the GOP primary debates, former President Donald Trump asked the Commission on Presidential Debates to move up debates in the general election due to early voting. For now, they are scheduled for Sept. 16, Oct. 1 and Oct. 9, if they happen at all; Biden said last month that it “depends on [Trump’s] behavior,” although he didn’t rule out a debate.

The former president attempted on Wednesday to back away from the Arizona ruling that reinstated a near-total abortion ban from the 1800s. He said the state Supreme Court went too far and predicted the matter would be “straightened out.” The ruling stemmed from the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, for which Trump has claimed credit. He also said he would not sign a national abortion ban.

Several anti-abortion groups were furious and Sen. Lindsey Graham said he “respectfully” disagreed with Donald Trump after the GOP nominee said abortion should be left up to the states. Trump posted on Truth Social that Graham and SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser should focus on helping Republicans win elections “rather than making it impossible for them to do so.”

In a video posted to Truth Social, Donald Trump said that limits on abortion should be left up to the states. Those comments will likely anger anti-abortion groups who have wanted Trump to take a firmer stance and come out in support of a national ban. Many of Trump’s allies are also hoping he’ll enforce the Comstock Act if he wins in November, which could effectively ban abortion everywhere.
