THE LATEST
Senate Republicans are finally moving forward with the partisan funding bill for immigration enforcement, after money for Donald Trump’s ballroom and the $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund were dropped from the package.
The $72 billion reconciliation bill is now expected to proceed to a vote-a-rama for amendments tomorrow, NOTUS’ Avani Kalra reports.
Trending
THE ADMINISTRATION
Tariffs of up to 12.5% are set to take effect next month on imports from 60 trading partners who use forced-labor practices, the U.S. trade office said. The levies, including against China, the European Union and Japan, are the latest in the Trump administration’s attempt to rebuild its tariff program after the Supreme Court struck down most of it.
The first inside look at Trump’s arch features an observation deck, winding staircases and elevators to bring visitors “above the traffic.” The Washington Post created the first 3D visualization of the 250-foot structure’s interior.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin told a House panel that his department is canceling “most” of the pending contracts from former Secretary Kristi Noem’s tenure.
THE HILL
Rep. Rob Wittman, the House Armed Services Committee’s No. 2 Republican, is amping up pressure to get the Trump administration’s long-awaited Iran war supplemental spending request, telling reporters it “needed to be here yesterday” to restock munitions and restore military readiness, NOTUS’ Joe Gould reports.
Speaker Mike Johnson said Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-New Jersey), who has been missing from Capitol Hill for months, “needs a little bit longer to recover.” Johnson said he knew about Kean’s condition but declined to say what it was, telling reporters that Kean is “under the care of health care providers” but that it’s “not a scandalous thing at all,” NOTUS’ Stephen Neukam reports.
THE COURTS
A federal judge in Wisconsin postponed sentencing Hannah Dugan, a former state circuit court judge, to instead hear arguments about whether to overturn the jury’s guilty verdict. Dugan was arrested after allegedly helping an undocumented immigrant leave the courthouse as officers searched for him.
THE STATES
The closely watched race for California governor is still too close to call. Republican Steve Hilton is leading the field with Democrats Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer in the second and third spots. The top two candidates, no matter party affiliation, will advance to November’s general election.
THANKS FOR CLARIFYING
From Sen. Tillis' questioning of Sec. Bessent at Senate Finance:
— Colin Wilhelm (@colinwilhelm) June 3, 2026
"Did you actually tell [Bill] Pulte you were going to punch him in the face?"
"No sir, I actually said I was going to kick his ass."
"Good...I share the emotion."
