Good afternoon. This is the Final NOTUS newsletter for March 6, 2026. You can get it in your inbox every day by signing up here — it’s free!

Mea culpa: Yesterday’s Final NOTUS accidentally left out a word in the news about Rep. Tony Gonzales — leadership did not ask him to resign.

The Latest

The goalposts for Iran keep moving. Is it defending the U.S. or is it regime change? Will the Iranian people get to pick their next leader or will Donald Trump be involved? The messaging since Trump launched the war last weekend has been all over the place.

  • “There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER! After that, and the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s), we, and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners, will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before,” the president posted on Truth Social this morning.
  • If you’re looking for a clear timeline on the shifting talking points, NOTUS’ Violet Jira has you covered.

The cost of oil and gas is surging. The international oil benchmark, Brent crude, hit $92 a barrel and the average price of gas hit $3.32 per gallon.

The new BLS jobs report came in rocky. The U.S. economy lost 92,000 jobs last month.

  • Big part of the issue: the health care industry. After a large gain in January, the sector lost jobs in February, its first decline in more than four years, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The Hill

Oklahoma! Oil tycoon Harold Hamm asked Gov. Kevin Stitt for the temporary job filling in for Sen. Markwayne Mullin once he moves over to DHS, NOTUS reports today.

  • Rep. Kevin Hern, a likely candidate for Mullin’s Senate seat, appears to have failed to correctly disclose millions in stock and security trades over the last year, NOTUS’ Adora Brown reports. Hern’s office told NOTUS that “the filings aren’t late.”

The Administration

The Justice Department is weighing charges against Cuban leaders. The New York Times reports that the U.S. attorney in South Florida has ordered an investigation into the country’s leaders. Trump said yesterday that it was a “matter of time” before the U.S. pressured or ousted current Cuban leadership.

Farewell to Jesse. Barack Obama praised Jesse Jackson at a public memorial service today, saying Jackson “paved the road for so many others to follow.”

Goodbye
