President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Republicans will hold their first-ever midterm convention this September in Dallas.

“At the Event, we will have hardworking Americans, our Great Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Manufacturers, First Responders, and Job Creators who are powering our Nation’s Golden Age, and proving that America’s best days are still ahead of us,” Trump said on Truth Social. “We will also have lots of Great Entertainment — It will be a RALLY like none other!”

The convention will be held Sept. 9 and 10.

Major party conventions are typically only held during presidential election years with the primary purpose of nominating candidates for president and vice president.

“It has never been done before, and will be a truly Historic Event,” Trump wrote.

The gathering comes as Republicans are defending narrow majorities in both chambers of Congress, and Texas is home to of many battleground elections in the House and Senate.

Trump made his intentions to hold a midterm convention known last year. Democrats are not planning a similar event, but have announced frontrunner cities for their 2028 convention.
