NOTUS has hired veteran investigative journalist Dave Levinthal as a senior editor. He joins a growing team of politics and policy reporters and editors in NOTUS’ newsroom.
Levinthal will focus on reporting and editing high-impact projects, investigations and enterprise journalism.
Previously, Levinthal led Raw Story’s newsroom as editor in chief and was a deputy editor at Business Insider, overseeing political investigations and enterprise reporting. He has edited and reported for the Center for Public Integrity, Politico, OpenSecrets and The Dallas Morning News, and his writing has appeared in The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Rolling Stone, TIME, Fortune, the Columbia Journalism Review, Washingtonian and many other publications.
He is a recipient of numerous national honors, including the Edward R. Murrow Award and a National Press Club Journalism Award, and is a television and radio analyst.
He has also been a frequent contributor to NOTUS over the past year, with major newsbreaking investigations, including:
- Inside the U.S. Geological Survey’s ‘Gulf of America’ Freak-Out
- Kash Patel Says His Krispy Kreme Investment Isn’t a Conflict, Despite FBI Data-Breach Probe
- The House Lawmaker With a Secret Helicopter
- Deadbeat Political Campaigns Still Owe Creditors Millions
- A Fundraiser Convicted of Defrauding ‘Vulnerable’ Victims is Back — and Making Millions From Republican Campaigns
- Few Rules Govern Contributions to Congressional Portrait Funds
“Dave has been a great asset to our newsroom over the past few months, both through his groundbreaking investigative reporting and his editing work.” said Tim Grieve, NOTUS’ editor in chief. “We are thrilled he will now be joining us full time.”
Levinthal’s new role is effective Dec. 1.
About NOTUS:
NOTUS is a newsroom like no other: a mix of veteran reporters and editors working with some of the country’s most promising up-and-coming reporters — individuals from different regions, backgrounds and beliefs who have come to Washington as fellows at the Allbritton Journalism Institute.
Together, we cover government and politics with the fresh eyes of newcomers and the expertise of veterans. We call it like we see it, no matter whose narrative it fits or how many clicks it will get.
