Conservative commentator and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson is officially done with the Republican Party — and says he expects others to follow him into the political wilderness.
“I’m out,” Carlson said on the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast, which is hosted by former Canadian journalists Travis Dhanraj and Karman Wong, during an episode published Thursday. The comments did not surface widely online until Monday. “If I’m out, then I think a lot of other people are out, too,” he added.
Carlson’s breakup with the Republican Party represents a growing frustration with the Trump administration’s strenuous support of Israel and its ongoing conflict with Iran, both issues that public opinion polls suggest are becoming increasingly unpopular.
“How could I or any American voter support a political party that’s not loyal to the United States,” Carlson said. “That puts the interests of a foreign country above those of its own citizens. It’s not possible to vote for people like that, and I’m not going to.”

Carlson, who was once one of the most recognizable faces in conservative media, has repeatedly broken with the Trump administration on a number of issues since he was fired from Fox News in 2023.
But he’s taken on a more confrontational tenor since the president decided to launch a war against Iran earlier this year, even publicly apologizing for campaigning for Trump in the past.
“You know, we’ll be tormented by it for a long time – I will be,” he said on “The Tucker Carlson Show.” “And I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people. It was not intentional, that’s all I’ll say.”
Carlson also publicly rebuked the president after Trump posted an AI-generated photo of himself as a religious figure earlier this year.
“It’s mockery,” Carlson said. “He’s mocking Jesus. He’s making fun of Christianity. The central figure of the religion is being held up for mockery.”
While Carlson insisted he will not support Republicans anymore, he also said he won’t be supporting the Democratic Party.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” Carlson said.
