Good afternoon. Here’s what you need to know.

The Latest

Donald Trump says he has a ‘framework of a future deal’ on Greenland. The president said on Truth Social that he and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte have a “solution” that, “if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America and ALL NATO nations.”

  • Asked if the deal would lead to the U.S. owning Greenland, Trump paused for several seconds, then said: “It’s a long-term deal. It’s the ultimate long-term deal. And I think it puts everybody in a really good position.”

The Administration

The Supreme Court may curb Trump’s attempt to remake the Fed. At oral arguments over the firing of Fed governor Lisa Cook, Justice Brett Kavanaugh said Trump’s approach could “weaken, if not shatter, the independence of the Federal Reserve.”

JD Vance is going to Minneapolis tomorrow for a roundtable discussion and remarks “focused on restoring law and order in Minnesota.”

  • ICE launched “Operation Catch of the Day” in Maine.

A judge blocked federal agents from searching the phone and laptops that they seized at the home of Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson — at least for now.

Gavin Newsom says the White House pressured organizers to cancel a talk he was supposed to give in Davos.

The FCC said Trump’s critics on late-night TV may have to provide equal time for opposing views.

The Hill

The House Oversight Committee approved contempt resolutions for Bill and Hillary Clinton. A handful of Democrats, including Rashida Tlaib and Summer Lee, supported the resolution on Hillary. More crossed over to support the resolution on Bill.

  • The committee is set to depose Ghislaine Maxwell on Feb. 9: It will happen in closed session, and Maxwell is expected to take the Fifth.

Mike Johnson said some anti-Trump judges should be impeached. The speaker said “extreme times call for extreme measures.”

House leaders may cancel Friday’s votes on account of snow.

It’s Always a Joke Until It Isn’t
