A resolution to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem continued to gain traction Monday amid fallout from another fatal shooting over the weekend involving a federal agent in Minneapolis.
More than 20 new Democrats signed onto the measure Monday, bringing the total number of supporters to 142, a spokesperson for Rep. Robin Kelly’s office confirmed to NOTUS. That number represents two-thirds of the party’s House caucus.
Kelly announced plans to introduce the resolution just hours after federal immigration agents shot and killed Renée Good in Minneapolis earlier this month. She formally introduced the articles of impeachment on Jan. 14.
The latest cosponsors include Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Gil Cisneros, Pat Ryan and Chrissy Houlahan. Several swing-district members, including Ohio Rep. Greg Landsman, had signed on to the resolution as well.
“Secretary Kristi Noem’s willful misconduct is violating the constitution and federal law and putting every single one of us in danger,” Cisneros wrote on X. “Kristi Noem must be impeached—immediately—for the safety and security of America.”
The push to impeach Secretary Noem has grown in recent weeks as the Trump administration plows ahead with its mass deportation campaign. It has largely targeted Democratic-led cities, sparking nationwide protests and leading to multiple shootings by federal immigration agents.
Of the 142 Democrats calling for Noem’s impeachment, only one, Rep. Laura Gillen, voted alongside Republicans last week to keep ICE funded at $10 billion for the 2026 fiscal year.
“Another U.S. citizen has been killed at the hands of ICE and there must be accountability, which is why Secretary Noem must be impeached immediately,” Gillen said in a statement Sunday. “Under her leadership, ICE has targeted U.S. citizens and children and killed Americans.”
