Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Suzan DelBene says Democrats will counter Republican efforts to pick up seats in the upcoming midterms using mid-decade redistricting.
“Republicans continue to be on this bent to redraw the lines. We absolutely are going to respond,” DelBene said on the On NOTUS podcast. “We are going to use every tool we have to respond across the country. We are not going to let them unilaterally just change lines.”
DelBene referred to the recent Supreme Court decision on the Voting Rights Act, which opened the door for Louisiana and other states to redraw their congressional maps, as “terrible,” and pledged a multi-pronged response.
“We are going to fight back in the courts,” DelBene said. “We’re obviously fighting back in statehouses, and we absolutely are fighting back on the ground, and people are fighting back with their vote.”

Pointing to Democratic overperformances in special elections in 2025, DelBene said she believes voters are tired of Republicans being a “rubber stamp” for President Donald Trump and want a change in Congress.
“Across the country, people have soured on these ongoing broken promises,” DelBene said. “People have seen the broken promises, they are struggling, and Republicans just don’t care.”
DelBene’s remarks are in contrast with a recent interview by her Republican counterpart, National Republican Congressional Committee Chair Richard Hudson, who told the On NOTUS podcast that Republicans have kept their campaign promises.
“I’ve encouraged my candidates and our members to go out there and talk about specific policies that we passed and tie those to the promises we made,” Hudson said. “We’re just getting started. Give us another two years.”
If Democrats take control of the House in the midterms, DelBene says they will focus on bringing down health care costs and rolling back Trump’s tariffs.
“You already saw the Supreme Court actually strike down the president’s attempts to put in tariffs unilaterally,” DelBene said. “We can stand up there. Congress legally has the say, and that’s something that we can move to take away.”
