A Secret Service agent on Vice President JD Vance’s detail is under investigation and faces potential criminal charges after private information was apparently leaked to the media.
The agent, who was not identified, “is the subject of an administrative investigation, and potential criminal inquiry, involving allegations of compromising operational and information security,” Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi told NOTUS in a statement.
MS NOW reported last week that Vance’s security team was “fed up” with the vice president’s personal travel schedule and said some agents considered their assignments to be inappropriate and burdensome. The story included details about Vance’s schedule that were not publicly known, and the Secret Service agent who is under investigation is accused of being a source for the article, according to CNN, which first reported the probe.
The Secret Service did not release any additional information about the matter.

“One principle is unequivocal: any conduct that potentially threatens the safety of a protectee will not be tolerated,” Guglielmi said.
The vice president’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
President Donald Trump’s administration has cracked down on federal officials’ communications with the news media in an effort to prevent leaks of government information.
The Office of Personnel Management proposed a new rule in May to apply sweeping nondisclosure agreements across the federal workforce. Government employees within the Defense Department and other national security-focused agencies were already subject to the agreements.
The Justice Department also issued subpoenas to four New York Times reporters over their reporting on security concerns regarding the new aircraft being used as Air Force One. The Qatari government gifted the Boeing 747-8 to the U.S. government in May 2025, and it was retrofitted to serve as the presidential aircraft.
