President Donald Trump accused several Democratic lawmakers on Thursday of “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” over a video that encouraged troops to refuse “illegal orders.”
“This is really bad, and Dangerous to our Country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, sharing a Washington Examiner article about the Democrats’ video. “Their words cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???”
Trump also reposted a Truth Social user who wrote that the members should be executed: “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!”
The remarks were targeted at a group of Democratic lawmakers: The remarks were targeted at a group of Democratic lawmakers: Sens. Elissa Slotkin and Mark Kelly, along with Reps. Jason Crow, Maggie Goodlander, Chris Deluzio, and Chrissy Houlahan.
In the video, the Democrats say current threats to the Constitution are domestic and that servicemembers should refuse illegal orders, although they did not specify which potential orders they were referencing. Each of the members in the video has served in either American intelligence services or the military.
“You can refuse illegal orders. You must refuse illegal orders,” the Democrats say in the video. “No one has to carry out orders that violate the law or our Constitution.”
Service members can be prosecuted for following unlawful orders under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
