President Donald Trump said he will go out later Thursday with law enforcement and the military as the administration continues its takeover of Washington, D.C.
“I’m going to be going out tonight, I think, with the police, and with the military, of course,” Trump said in a midday interview with Todd Starnes. “So we’re going to do a job.”
A White House official told NOTUS that details are forthcoming.
Law enforcement presence in Washington, D.C., has ballooned since Trump took federal control over the Metropolitan Police Department. In addition to deploying the D.C. National Guard, six Republican-led states have also sent guardsmen to D.C., where they can be seen patrolling metro stations, the National Mall, and other public areas.
On Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller visited with members of the National Guard at the Union Station Shake Shack. There, Vance and Miller admonished protestors and continued to defend the administration’s takeover of the city.
“We have changed so much in nine days, and I thought it important to highlight how great of a space this could be, how easy it could be to actually enjoy something like Union Station if you just had politicians who stopped prioritizing violent criminals over the public citizens who deserve public safety in their own communities,” Vance said.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday that 465 arrests had been made since the start of the operation on Aug. 7.
