Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur was hospitalized following a hit-and-run car crash in her home state of Ohio on Sunday morning, according to the Toledo Police Department.
The crash occurred around 10:45 a.m. in Toledo, and Kaptur and her campaign manager, Kegan Zimmermann, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Zimmermann was driving the vehicle that was hit, and Kaptur was a passenger, according to the incident report.
“This morning Congresswoman Kaptur was a passenger in a vehicle on her way to a church service when the car she was traveling in was struck,” Kaptur’s office wrote in a statement. The statement said Kaptur was active and alert while being treated.
Toledo Police Chief Michael Troendle said in a statement that he spoke with Kaptur after the crash and is “glad to hear she’s doing well.”

Toledo police described the investigation as “active and ongoing” and said they are still working to identify the driver responsible for the hit-and-run.
Local news station WTOL 11 published photos from the scene showing two damaged vehicles. One witness told WTOL that the other driver was picked up by another vehicle and fled shortly after the incident.
Kaptur’s colleagues shared messages of support on X.
“Tina and I are praying for a quick and full recovery for @RepMarcyKaptur,” Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) wrote. “We hope the person responsible for this reckless act is apprehended quickly and held accountable.”
“I’m praying for my colleague @RepMarcyKaptur after her crash this morning,” Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Arizona) posted. “May she be restored to full health in short order.”
Kaptur is running for reelection for Ohio’s 9th Congressional District and is set to face former state Rep. Derek Merrin in November. Merrin asked followers to help him in “praying for her speedy recovery.”
