THE LATEST

The U.S. and Iran have reached an agreement on extending the ceasefire — or have they? Neither country has given clear answers about what the 60-day memorandum of understanding could include. The framework could lead to reopening the Strait of Hormuz while punting discussion of Donald Trump’s demands to end Iran’s nuclear program, The New York Times reports.

U.S. officials have gone on background to say the deal is all but done. But publicly, they have only reiterated their hard lines today while Trump remains silent.

The president refiled a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal over a July 2025 article that included a birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein with Trump’s signature. His previous lawsuit was dismissed last month.

THE HILL

Senate Democrats urged the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office to check the Trump administration’s math when it comes to Iran war costs — accusing officials of lowballing.

THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer poured cold water this morning on a 2028 run, saying, “There will be a robust group of people running for president — I will not be one of them.”
