As House Republicans try to pressure lawmakers to adopt the Senate’s amended budget, President Donald Trump is expected to huddle with House Republican leaders on Tuesday ahead of a fundraiser for the House GOP’s campaign arm, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The National Republican Congressional Committee is holding its annual fundraiser Tuesday night at the National Building Museum, with Trump serving as the guest of honor. (A source told NOTUS that the fundraiser is expected to bring in eight figures.)
But the meeting will likely be centered on Trump trying to get House Republicans in line on the Senate’s latest budget resolution.
Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Whip Tom Emmer, Conference Chair Lisa McClain and NRCC Chairman Richard Hudson are among the members expected to meet with Trump before the fundraiser.
The budget, expected to come up for a vote in the House on Wednesday, is already facing staunch opposition. More than enough House Republicans have said they’re voting no, leaving Johnson in a tough place.
GOP leaders plan to rely heavily on Trump to flip the holdouts, with the White House already starting to make calls. One GOP member told NOTUS that Trump’s legislative affairs team was contacting lawmakers over the weekend about the budget.
The meeting also comes as House Republicans increasingly worry about the markets crashing as a result of Trump’s tariffs.
On a GOP-wide conference call on Sunday, a handful of members pushed Johnson to tell the administration they need more answers. Johnson promised he would get a White House official to brief the members, a source on the call told NOTUS.
According to the source on the call, Johnson said everyone needs to trust the president.
“Donald J. Trump delivered the greatest economy in the history of the world in his first term,” Johnson claimed on the call, according to the source.
