U.S. Capitol Police said they arrested a 23-year-old Oregon resident Wednesday morning after his vehicle was found parked in a congressional staff parking area filled with various weapons.
Police said a Subaru Outback was found at around 9 a.m. with a large tricycle strapped to the roof. It did not have proper parking tags, and officers “spotted what appeared to be a bow & arrow, a knife, and an empty pistol holster inside the vehicle,” according to a statement.
Law enforcement officials eventually collected a rifle, handgun, ammunition, knives, axes, a halberd, a rapier sword and a bow and arrow from inside the vehicle, Capitol Police said.
Police then found the suspected owner, identified as Nolan R. Churan, near the north barricade of the Capitol, according to police.
Police said “there does not appear to be a nexus to the Congress” for the suspect.
WUSA9 also reported seeing officers removing what appeared to be a handwritten journal and large wooden recurve bow from the vehicle.
Capitol Police testified at a Committee on House Administration hearing in March that they made 234 arrests related to DUI, assaults, drugs, motor vehicle thefts and weapon law violations in 2023.
Churan is facing at least seven charges, including carrying a rifle without a license.
Capitol Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment from NOTUS.
