As Republicans wrangle their members to unify behind the GOP budget plan, Democrats are planning more town halls in opposing party districts.

Over the upcoming April congressional recess, Democrats are set to host five new town halls in target districts where the sitting Republican representatives have not held in-person meetings with their constituents, party officials shared with NOTUS.

On the list are districts represented by Arizona Rep. Juan Ciscomani, Pennsylvania Rep. Rob Bresnahan, Colorado Rep. Gabe Evans, Missouri Rep. Ann Wagner and North Carolina Rep. Richard Hudson. In March, Hudson, who is the National Republican Congressional Committee chair, advised Republicans to quit doing in-person town halls.

“Voters across the country are furious, and instead of facing their constituents, Republicans are avoiding hosting in-person town halls because NRCC Chair Richard Hudson told them to hide,” Democrats’ announcement of the latest slate of town halls says.

These stops are the latest additions to their ongoing series of People’s Town Halls — a nationwide blitz of town halls launched in March to call out Republicans, organized by the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Association of State Democratic Committees. In the past three weeks, Democrats say they’ve hosted 71 town halls in 35 states.

“In both red and blue communities, people are sick and tired of Donald Trump and Elon Musk destroying the economy, threatening health care and Social Security, and making life worse for families,” Ken Martin, the DNC’s chair, wrote in a statement.

Democratic Reps. Greg Stanton, Greg Casar and Maxwell Frost, along with Sens. Chris Murphy and Cory Booker, are scheduled to attend town halls over the recess period.

Meanwhile, Republicans who have decided to face their constituents at tense town halls have in most cases had their events packed with angry voters questioning Elon Musk’s role in the federal government, Congress ceding its authority to the executive branch and concerns around GOP budget cuts to safety net programs.

After one recent town hall filled with incensed voters, led by Republican Rep. Chuck Edwards of North Carolina, Trump accused the crowd of being “radical left lunatic” protesters organized by Democrats.

“All they did was scream, shout and use filthy language. They were largely paid agitators, with fake signs and slogans, and were only there to make TROUBLE!” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Don’t let infiltrated Town Halls fool you. It is the only thing the Dems know how to do.”
