NOTUS is seeking a savvy and highly motivated Communications Manager to expand the reach and visibility of our newsroom talent. The candidate will be responsible for securing high-impact media placements for reporters — across cable television, podcasts, radio programs, events and other emerging media. This person understands the fast-paced media landscape, has strong relationships across the Washington media ecosystem and thrives at the intersection of editorial and public relations.
This person is a team player. They are calm under pressure and are comfortable working with senior leadership, early-career journalists and everyone in between.
Key Responsibilities
- Pitch and secure bookings for NOTUS reporters on established and cutting-edge external media outlets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with producers/bookers.
- Strategically elevate newsroom talent as subject-matter experts on issues in the news cycle.
- Prepare reporters for on-air appearances, including drafting briefing materials, conducting media training, sharing messaging guidance guidance and coordinating logistics.
- Collaborate closely with NOTUS leadership to magnify major editorial projects.

About the role:
NOTUS, a nonpartisan politics newsroom, is seeking a Copy Editor. This person will collaborate with editors and reporters to ensure the copy we publish is meticulous and adheres to our standards and style guides. This person will also contribute to the audience team, crafting social media posts as needed.
This is a Sunday-Thursday schedule in the Washington D.C. area.
Responsibilities:
- Copy edit all NOTUS content, including breaking news, long-form journalism, social media posts and our daily newsletters. Our copy editing team serves as the last line of defense before content is published and distributed to audiences.
- Copy edit Allbritton Journalism Institute communications, including news releases and fundraising pitches.
- Work with the audience team on an as-needed basis to craft social copy, such as posts for X, Bluesky or Facebook.
Qualifications:
- Strong command of AP style, attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-moving news environment.

About the role:
We’re looking for a Deputy Congress Editor who is eager to help shape our ambitious coverage of Capitol Hill. Reporting to the Senior Congress Editor, you will help manage the flow of copy from the Capitol Hill team — as well as train up-and-coming journalists — to bring essential, fresh stories to NOTUS readers. You should have a solid knowledge of politics, preferably with experience as an editor or reporter covering the Hill.
Capitol Hill coverage feeds into almost every part of our newsroom — so you’ll need to be organized, collaborative and a great communicator. You’ll help plot out our daily and weekly publishing schedule and assist with Hill coverage around major events.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in journalism.
- Strong interest in and knowledge of politics, especially Capitol Hill.
- Strong writing skills.
- Mentorship experience, either as a reporter or editor, preferred.

You should have a solid understanding of politics and a strong interest in policy. The policy areas reporters on this team cover include health, energy, environment, immigration, education, housing and/or the justice system. Previous editing or reporting experience in one or more of these issue areas is a plus.
This person should be full of story ideas and have strong organizational and communication skills. While prior editing experience is preferred, it is not required. This role may include evening hours.

NOTUS, a nonpartisan newsroom that covers politics, is seeking a Digital Producer. This person will collaborate with editors and the creative director to manage the homepage, prepare stories for publication and ensure NOTUS copy has a clear and accurate presentation. This person will also contribute to the audience team, crafting social media posts and ensuring stories are promoted across platforms accurately. This is a Sunday-Thursday evening position. Responsibilities:
- In coordination with editors, prepare stories for publication, including photo selection, in-line links and SEO headlines. Manage the homepage and section fronts and publish to Apple News.
- Newsletter production as needed.
- Craft social media copy tailored to each platform and audience. Use audience analytics to monitor posts and find areas for growth opportunities and improvement.
- Various other production and promotion tasks as they arise.
Qualifications:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-moving news environment.
